Roe Rut

Seen bits of chasing all week - sussex and oxfordshire. Watched a buck cover a doe last night, mature buck but poor head, sadly couldn’t get to him before he did his business but he won’t be doing anymore.

Then watched a mature buck chase a doe this morning before being interrupted by a middle aged buck, huge scrap and then the mature buck presented a shot, which I took, the middle aged buck had more potential.

Then shot an average middle aged head that was marching across a wheat field at 8 am this morning.

I expect it to be in full flow late next week.

out last night and we got another 2 bucks. they were both with does but still not chasing. I called a doe but the bucks were having none of it. any time now i think

Out this morning before work 0400-0600 not a sign of anything. Going to try it for next few days

I took my mate out this morning and he shot a nice buck chasing a doe. See another young buck on the move.

Just before I left for my harvest job I shot a buck chasing a doe, but definetly pre rutting behavior, nothing more. It must be upon us soon!

I tried to call a buck with the Buttolo this morning about 0530. Tried various calls.
He was curious and looked in my direction for a while then put his head down and carried on grazing.

Definite signs on two golf courses in Edinburgh over the last two evenings - intense chases, and managed to call in a buck toward dusk last night while waiting for foxes to show. Even saw a pair chasing back and forth across a fairway right between two sets of golfers, totally oblivious to the people.

Remember to shout "Fore!" before letting the shot go :).

Called and shot two bucks yesterday morning in the North Cotswolds one for Andy at first light and one for myself a bit later.

This morning I was in the South West Cotswolds not much activity but called and shot small cull buck.

Nice bucks the pair of them!

Did you take those photos using the same camera you used for the videos? They are really nice and sharp, particularly given they both needed flash.

Cheers Dom, Andys was a youngster mine was not a bad buck for the area. I'm still using my old Sony cyber shot for trophy shots it lives in my Roe sack.

Was out at 0430 this morning and nowt! Seen the arse end if a buck when I had a pip on the buttalo and that's it! :-(

Out again this morning & again nothing seen, no reaction to the caller. Unfortunate the area I can visit on my way to work is un stalkable so it's just a case of sitting up and hoping. Oh well try again in the morning

Called a youngster this morning, came in like a train. He was on his own but nose to the ground and on a mission. Tried with another no joy.

Took one yesterday morning around 4.30. Tried to call him but got no reaction. Saw a nice buck but he was standing in someone's garden ! Aaaaaargh !!

Shot a 6 pointer this morning , he was with a doe but showing no interest at all. Tried calling but no response.

Was out again this weekend with a client MORTEN off this site, and from Norway. Nothing much showing, infact very quiet, very warm and not much action yet. Although we had one young buck half interested in a doe, and nearly had a shot. No interest in the call from anywhere.
However he did manage to take a modest buck from a high seat at about 8.15 on Sunday evening, so he did get his first English Roe Buck.
No sign of the big heads I saw with Gelert about 3 weeks ago. Hope it breaks out this weekend.
