Pheasant hunting is a British tradition which was most likely introduced by the Normans in the 11th century. Today, shooting game birds is an annual tradition which happens every autumn all across Britain. Sound & Colour Films is currently working on a documentary which explores the culture of shooting. The aim of the film is to explore the ins and outs of this fascinating tradition and to give voice to the complex social and political arguments surrounding shooting within the community.

We are currently looking for participants who can chat about everything to do with shooting. This is a good opportunity to help educate the public about the sport, its importance to the community, and why it's a valued tradition. Any guidance or participation would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Sound & Colour

Contact the BASC, NGO or CA.

My suspicious nature says there's more to this!

Would be interesting to know the client who has commissioned this work from you.

I think you would well advised to work through BASC.

This is primarily a forum about Deer not game birds.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for your replies!

Good idea with reaching out to BASC and NGO. GWCT is another good one. I don't think I'm familiar with CA. What does it stand for?

You're about a week too late! 😂
Yes I know! But that is fine, the filmmaking process can be quite long so the plan is to start finding contributors now and then be good to go for the next season.

Sound & Colour mostly works in commercial video production. However, the company is slowly trying to get into documentary filmmaking. To get to the point, there is no client. I'm an emerging documentary filmmaker interested in wildlife and conservation and I've partnered up with Sound & Colour to produce this film which we will hopefully get on a network.

Thanks everyone,
Gabriel

The best advice remains , make contact with BASC your thread has been flagged up to them, also the GWCT, the Country Food Trust are also worth looking at, as are the National Game Keepers Organisation.

If you and your team are not familiar with "Hunting Shooting Fishing" I suggest The Hunting Gene by Robin Page might be an interesting read, some on here might have other suggestions.

David Bellamy, the great biologist and TV presenter, did a film many years ago about pheasant shooting - and was never seen again on TV!!!

Any body know what name of documentary with David Bellamy was / and if it’s still avaialble anywhere ?….. longshot

CA is Countryside Alliance

Thanks everyone. Will be making contact with BASC within next few days. I've heard of Country Food Trust, they look interesting and seem to be doing really good work.

I would also love to see this film if anyone knows the name. Bellamy lost his career because in 2004 he said climate change was "poppycock." BBC, ITV, and Wildlife Trust all dropped him immediately after that. But I like to hear the hint at danger making a film about pheasant shooting. It means theres some controversy around the subject, which makes for an interesting story!

Or following their support of the BASC proposed lead ban Cnuts Anonymous (well as some of us now call them).
Interested to learn more about the proposed lead ban and how shooters feel about it... but maybe thats for another thread?

What title springs to mind ?

Good on you I say. Anyone that shows the Conservation and hardwork we put in to to managing the land. Deserve a pat on the back from me.
I run a small syndicate and we have at least a dozen kids under 16 every shoot day and more. They understand how we manage what we do. Most importantly the respect they show for the birds is fantastic

Look forward to seeing your film and good effort

If you are wanting to show game shooting in a good light, stay away from the commercials they are so far away from what the small syndicates do, we are not in it for the money, the majority of us do it for the love of it and to try and make a difference for the better, no matter how small that difference is, now I’m not saying that the commercial keeper doesn’t want to create a better environment ( I’ve got a couple of mates that are commercial keepers ) but it’s a business and the tens of thousands of birds that they put down take priority
