What is the best whisky

I reopen this thread with the important news that the Bowmore Darkest 15yo I was given for Christmas is one of the yummiest drams I've ever had the good fortune to sup.

I know this will probably raise a debate. I'm not a whisky buff, but do enough a wee dram.
I've tried & really liked macallan & balvinne 15 year old.
Just working my way through a bottle of Bowmore islay malt.
Any other suggestions for a really good malt ?????.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Try a blend, Johnny Walker Blue label if you can afford it

or

Johnny Walker Gold, if you can find one (make sure it is Johnny walker gold; not Johnny walker gold reserve.

and if coming back from abroad; Buchanan's finest blended De-Luxe

There is no "best" whisky, its what you consider best to your taste

Macallan is good but due to demand it is now over priced.

Correction...It used to be very good... Now it tastes like someone didn't rinse the fairy liquid out of the pipes. Go on... look for the washing up liquid flavour next time you try it... you will find it. :(

The SHOP in tomintoul has had something to answer for on more than occasion, well yer can't go by without buying summink, that would be totally ungracious to the wee dram industry :D

Best selection I've seen and errrrrrrr tasted ehummmm it's like a pilgrimage to a candy shop, don't know what to buy first, second or last. It's all hinged on the tasting. :-D

Maybe not THE best, but my staple diet, Glenlivet 12 yr old at £14.99 + VAT this week in Costco.

now which one are you talking about, I have many bottles of them all, the ones that are open right now, taste just fine and bought direct from Diageo employee shop, un-tampered with

There is usually always a bottle of Old Pulteney in our house. I can't resist this smooth whisky and still think it a wonder that something so awesome can come from a place that is usually wild and wet when I visit - and I would recommend Caithness for a visit to all!

Not a great fan of smoky/peaty whisky. Always makes me think of getting to close to my granny's fire when I was wee and getting a mouth full of smoke.

The original question is one that you could ask a thousand people and get a thousand different replies............

For myself, I've always thought the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is about as nice a malt as you can find. Although the Portwood finish is just as good.

I love the Highland and Speyside malts, and loathe the Islays. Other love the Islay peat & smoke flavours & find the Highland whiskies insipid They're wrong, of course. but they're entitled to their ill-thought out opinions

Two hundred and odd answers and counting. I agree with Woodsmoke in that you could get a thousand different replies. It's not like "do you prefer Browning or Beretta shotguns". :)

I should say, with the reasoning that you can actually drink it, that the best malt is the one in your cupboard!

I have been lucky to have a number of good malts given to me over the past year by good friends who have come stalking with me.

BUT no matter what your favourite malt, they always taste better when you have come back off the hill, after a succesful days stalking, with a good meal inside you, a roaring log fire to sit by with a few good friends, with the raining hammering against the window, and all is well in the world.

Good whisky needs good friends and good times to go with it ;)

Yep nothing like coming of the hill after a cold day on the hinds to roaring fire and a good bottle. As the night goes on the shots get longer and hills steeper. I was introduced to The macallan now my favorite by Addie the stalker at Mauld estate in Inverness. ***** that boy can drink, I used to have to follow the deer fencing from his place to find my way home after a few drams:oops:
