1 gun for everything

I sound like a broken record but for one rifle to do everything apart from dangerous game it's got be the 30.06.

One of the most important things about it is that good hunting ammunition is available wherever big game is hunted, literally everywhere.

Try that with a .260 Rimmington.

It has the flexibility with the light bullets to make an effective, if loud, foxing rifle at one end, and fell moose, bear and plains game at the other.

If you just want it for the UK then any of them will do really, the 6.5mm appear to be in fashion at the moment...:D

Just to throw a spanner in the works ......................................... with just one gun reliable as they generally are thee is always a gremlin that shoves his/hers ore in and the wrong moment and something goes wrong. That's when you pull the back up out so the minimum is two rifles ;). Preferably ones which overlap usage :thumb:.

7x64, 270 Win, .308 & .30 Springfield (30-06). If places like France are in the mix then perhaps swop the .308, .30-06 with the .300 Win mag. All will have ammunition available if it's needed at a good gunshop.

There's your answer.
Switch barrel!!!
One scope, one action, one stock and two barrels :-)
How about a 22-250 or .243 with short slow twist barrel for blatting vermin and fox out of the truck with light fast heads then switch to ooooh lets say 7mm08 for shooting heavier bullets out of a tighter twist heavier barrel for deer and even some 1000 yard plinking. ;-)

LOL,,.375H&H,,,yeah, a wee bit OTT for fox and other vermin! :scared:

I bet you a pint of the finest ale that my .375 h&h puts a smaller hole in a fox and has less dramatic results on a rabbit with the 300gr soft points I use than any .243 with a varminting or premium bullet of expanding construction :thumb:

only difference being I would probably save £4 a shot using the 243 compared to the 375!! ;)

I already have a few blasers and was hoping to stick with that brand so maybe that is the way to go with 2 barrels

Now this will blow you balls off!

primer = 4p
66gr vit 140/ trg 140 = 40p
300gr horny sp/bt = 50p each (cliffs plus delivery)

total per top end round 94p

but I can get it down to 83p with cheaper bullet choices like RN's!!! Joygasm

Have you thought of soft cast lead paper patched?

30-06 0r 308 does the job properly and capable of 1000yd accuracy

what would you be shooting 150 g ??to shot out to 1000yds would be very intrested to know as i am new to 308 and do not feel good after 250/300 yds

kind regards

DJC

Normal 308 for 1000 yds is 168gr ;)

Sierra suite info: 168gr sierra matchking 1000yds 450ft/lbs ;) (for example - target round)

Callum Ferguson once said to me that a .260 is just a .243 that shoots 100 grainers better....

Yep, when you look at his reamer list and see what his choice is, if the 260 is one of his favourites then it's worth listening to.

Having said that he also recently said that he thought the 6.5x47 was a superb chambering...
