1 gun for everything

Can you get some of the bigger calibres for lamping fox? The original questioned asked everything from fox to fallow. I was told oiriginally when i got my .308 i could shoot a fox when i saw it, but not 'actively' go out looking for fox with it, i.e lamping.

Read up on Colonel Cooper's ideal 'Scout' rifle. This was intended to be the one rifle for all events. To be fair, it would take a lot of beating.
One of the big issues was ammo availability, hence 308.
Gets my vote.

.243AI, with a fast twist barrel and 105gr + bullets, its a great round and will out shoot the .308 out past 1000yds. This will shoot 80gr for fox too, from the same barrel.

I have had a 270 for years its no problem with foxes < they still die!!! good target practice! I have just this year got a 6.5x47lapua and it great ,it makes an average shooter look good!!!

Having the same thoughts at the moment , for UK then my first thought was 6 BR, then took into consideration the fact that ammo is really home load only and should i get lucky and get permission to go to africa again i would probably need the ability to shoot heavier bullets.

Now i am torn between 6.5 x 47 , 260 and 308

A friend of my partners family was telling me the 308/30-06 calibres are frowned upon in africa as being too light and if I was thinking of getting a long-range red deer and safari gun I should go for a 300 Win Mag or 7mm-08...

I have 270 and 308 conditioned for fox on my ticket in Sussex .

I use a 6.5x47 lapua, it does it all, just load it for the main purpose you want to use it for.
You can use it against all deer species in the UK, and vermin, plus one of the finest target rounds there is at the moment if you like to shoot targets aswell.

The 25-06 is for winners... every serious stalker should have one in their cabinet.

Those that dont have one, are yet to fire one obviously. :-D

guy who did my level2 ken dennis ( god rest his soul )

once said to me ...beware the guy who only has one rifle......he may just be able to shoot wi it!!!

I had the thought of buying one gun for everything, i chose the 25-06 which suited my needs perfectly, now im struggling to get it conditioned for foxes. so probably best to ask your local feo before deciding . atb matt
