What is the best whisky

I sussed out this whisky job a year or two ago , 6 spoons of sugar, top-up glass to half-way mark with boiling water to disolve the sugar and add any brand to fill the glass. Adding the whisky last ensures a greater amount due to the glass tapering in a favourable direction.
Personally I use Bells or Grouse but I am not too fussy if someone has a surplus bottle of another brand.
I took into custody another Bells at £11 today in case supplies dwindle.

[ I was chastised in a previous thread for spelling whisky with an E by an individual whose spelling is far from perfect, naughty me! ]

A couple of painkillers with this concoction gets me 4-5 hours sleep before I wake up.
I gave the `Speyside` to a friend for his Xmas present as it would have been wasted on me !

Stag1933 - Irish whiskey is spelt with an "e" but Scotch whisky isn't ;)

Highland Park for me, nice balance of honey and peat :)

I bought a bottle of Port Ellen as an investment last year; the disitillery on Islay closed in 1983. Drank it within a week....still, it gave me a lot more pleasure than the Northern Rock shares I decided to buy just before they went under!

have a look on www.lfw. I can't remember if it's com or co.uk but something for all tastes and all budgets.

my choice is Glenrothes very smooth

best of the season to everyone

Cheers

Hi All, I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Highland Park 12yo. I was told by a friend from the Orkneys that this was the finest whisky in the world and happily went along with this. Until that is, that an authority on the subject suggested I try Scapa. This was just as good.

Glenlivet 15 and Glendronach 15 are both lock the doors and close the curtains malt. The original glendronach 15 is real sweet, sherry tasting, beautiful.it's still available at 90 the bottle, the still has opened again but the 15 now isn't quite as sweet but still well worth trying think it's about 45 the bottle if memory serves me right

I'm no expert but I've drunk a few good malts. Amongst the best was Craigellachie, I think 22 yo, it was superb, honeyed and smooth. In terms of blends I have a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label and that seems fairly decent to me.

If you like them smokey and peaty try the Laphroaig Quarter Cask. It's a beauty. If you like them really smokey try Smokehead. If you're not keen on the west coast stuff the Dalwhinnie is a good starter.

Dont get them on the Laphroaig Frax or you will need to sink calmac ferries to stop them getting over to Port Helen
on Islay
Ahhhhhhh it brings back memories sailing the Western Isles sampling the nectar as we went then down to Larne past the Rathlin Sound.
They used to have a parrot in a pub in Port Helen that was until my mate give it a sip of Laphroaig and poisened the poor thing it keeled over off its perch dead in the bottom of the cage ,we all had to make a quick exit out of the pub the landlord went beserk:rofl:

Recently got a bottle of the Laphroaig Quater Cask donated to me from a friend, I've always like the Laphroaig and I was very impressed with the Quater Cask bottle, an excellent tipple.

I also like the Balvenie but my favourite, as I've stated before on the other thread, has to be the Bushmills 12 year malt whiskey.

Ah whisky, whisky, Nancy's whisky...................

I have been lucky to have a number of good malts given to me over the past year by good friends who have come stalking with me.

BUT no matter what your favourite malt, they always taste better when you have come back off the hill, after a succesful days stalking, with a good meal inside you, a roaring log fire to sit by with a few good friends, with the raining hammering against the window, and all is well in the world.

Good whisky needs good friends and good times to go with it ;)

Whisky not whiskey, some can't tell the difference seemingly!!

At varying times, in my cupboard under the stairs there will be, laphroaig, Jura, lagavulin, Highland Park or my old man's favourite The Macallan. Nice to have a dram after a decent meal and makes a change from my normal Armagnac.

ft

Edit, I have a fondness, because of wildfowling forays and distilliary trips which are faintly remembered, for The Bladnoch.

In my humble opinion, the best whisky is the one you happen to be drinking at the time! I have found that it is true that whisky improves with age. The aulder Ah get, the mer Ah like it!!
