Please no!!Folks, what is the real life difference between these two calibers if you home load? I’m asking purely from an academic point of view as I realise they will be very similar.
6.5x55 has larger case capacity. Can it outperform the 6.5CM if home loaded? Would you have to load the Swede very ‘hot’ just to keep up with a standard 6.5CM round?
Does the 6.5CM use a faster burning powder than the Swede so it does better in a smaller case?
My main curiosity is that I picked out a Swede for the old man and I’ve used it occasionally. Effective caliber although I was surprised how much the trajectory changed over 200 yards compared to my .270. That being said, if I was buying new now, the creedmoor does seem like the sensible choice.
As a side note, which is your favourite 6.5 bullet? Our Swede seems to shoot 140 grain bullets better than 120. Currently using 143 eldx, very accurate but quite a lot of bruising!
Please no!!
This has been done too many times, there’s nothing in it. Swede shooters will say that is better crews shooters the opposite, those who shoot both in a modern action will tell you there is literally nothing in it other than the length of the action and slight variation in the powder burned!!
Eld-m or eld-x are along the lines of the old a-max, thin jacketed and violently expanding as result!
Shoot a bonded hunting bullet With a thicker jacket If you want less damage.
The technical question has been asked and answered in many breads before!Hah I was just wanting to see what was ‘technically’ possible.
I’m running accubonds in the .270 and really like them. May switch over to them as most of the suggestions on here are non toxic.
Interesting to see the replies though. I do wonder if it’ll get harder to get reloading bits and pieces for the Swede as time goes on
Did they use their loaf answering in the many breads before? The technical question has been asked and answered in many breads before!
But a swede home loaded to its full potential (I.e. higher than standard pressure but acceptable in a modern action and strong brass) does all the creed will do and vice Versa. Nothing in it.
The swede is a lovely calibre to shoot and the creed is realistically a short action version.
Accubond LR were my favoured bullet in creedmoor until I went non lead, great bullets and very accurate.

Just curious like….

More than you think sir - “a few too many”…..
A few too many wines after being very fortunate to attend lunch today at the SF club in Knightsbridge can take the blame for that one!
Privi produce plenty if it’s vfm that you want or Lapua for top end specs and will never be cut from their lines! Privi doesn’t even load CM yet, there obviously isn’t much of a market otherwise they would be all over itGood for you! But in the US, where 6.5 Swede is rare and 6.5 CM is not, my point still stands. And since manufacturers tend to make what is popular, and the bulk of what the UK gets is what the US makes....
If there is indeed a shortage coming down the pipe, due to all the conflicts, I can guarantee you the 6.5 Swede will get cut from production long before the Creedmoor does.

When viewed from outside of the US the situation regarding the 6.5x55 is rather different than you seem to think.Good for you! S&B have cornered the market for low cost creedmoor ammunitionPrivi produce plenty if it’s vfm that you want or Lapua for top end specs and will never be cut from their lines! Privi doesn’t even load CM yet, there obviously isn’t much of a market otherwise they would be all over it

Indeed so and yea verily on the seventh day the Lord made the triple deuce, smiled at what he had done for it was indeed mighty and raising his face to the heavens, he cried “Behold the work of the Lord!”.once upon a time there was a rifle calibre , a grand old calibre known as the 30/06 but one day someone made a new calibre a bit shorter that would do the same basically and called it the 308 , people loved the new calibre because people are inqusitive and keen to try new stuff by nature generally because thats how we advance and discover new stuff (america wasn't discovered because we didn't develop new ships) even though the old boys scoffed and said the newcomer was a waste of time and would never take off.
anyway fast forward to today and the old boys club still claim some superiority of the 30/06 30fps here 25fps there (frankly insignificant differences) but a basic understanding of ballistics and you'll see why the most popular calibre now is 308 since it offers the same performance but in a smaller package with more factory options.
and still , you would be well served by either and any target from a deer to a steel plate at 1000m would not be able to tell which calibre it had been shot by......
Then along came the PPC and urinated all over the triple twos bonfireIndeed so and yea verily on the seventh day the Lord made the triple deuce, smiled at what he had done for it was indeed mighty and raising his face to the heavens, he cried “Behold the work of the Lord!”.
Then He went shooting - hasn’t been seen much since….
